Humming

In some rain, light

I watched a hummingbird

perch and flick her

serpent tongue, dark

her head breaks air

in juts and motion

moving eyes to see the sounds

the flaps and glides

the droplets from collecting

leaves, sharing

the click of the cardinal, red

Oh thank the leaves

for sending such a friend

I apologize for my loneliness

pervasive and foolish

one day, I promise

I will listen
